Basics for the novice cook

Quick Peas

Peas are good for you but don’t make cooking them an unnecessary chore:

Mushy Peas

If you want mushy peas, open a tin and warm them up in a small saucepan.

Garden Peas

Everybody loves garden peas - especially children. If you want to serve garden peas with your dish, buy frozen ones. They are frozen as soon as they are picked and therefore extremely fresh.

Cook garden peas straight from the freezer. Pour about 80g per serving into a bowl (I normally find a cereal bowl is big enough) and add two tablespoons of clean cold water. Cover the bowl with cling film, pierce the film once or twice with a skewer to let any steam out, and then simply microwave for about two and a half minutes prior to serving.
